Frequently Asked Questions

FAQ

1) Why are Habitat Screens installed on the outside of the windows?

Habitat Screens are installed on the outside of windows so that they can stop the sun’s heat and glare before it reaches the glass. Unlike interior window treatments that offer only shade and privacy, Habitat Screens™ are a proactive defense against solar heat gain as well.

2) What is the screen made of?

Talius Habitat Screens are made of fabrics specifically engineered for exterior applications. Talius has 5 different fabrics to choose from each with a variety of color options. Depending on your needs, our fabrics block between 55% and 99% of the sun and provide excellent protection from overheating.

3) Can you see through the screen?

Yes. This is what makes Habitat Screens so practical and appealing. Because the screen material is available in a variety of weave densities, you can block the heat and glare of the sun’s rays without sacrificing your view. During the day, Habitat Screens™ offer excellent privacy, and at night, those looking in can only see silhouettes.

4) Can Habitat Screens be used on porches?

Yes. Habitat Screens are the ideal solution for providing shade, privacy, and insect protection for patios, gazebos, and decks.

5) How do Habitat Screens protect me from insects?

Talius’ unique edge retention system uses a zipper system that keeps the screen in a track and greatly reduces the number of insects in your home or patio while the screen is down.

6) What happens if Habitat Screens are left in the down position in high winds?

When Habitat Screens are in the fully projected (downward) position, Talius’ unique edge retention system allows Talius Habitat Screens to withstand winds of up to 100 mph, depending on the size and mounting conditions of the Habitat Screen unit. Talius has performed internationally recognized testing in a controlled environment to determine these estimates. In areas susceptible to high winds, Talius strongly recommends the use of a wind sensor to protect the integrity of the Habitat Screen. Performance may vary. Talius does not recommend operating Habitat Screens in windy conditions. During windy conditions, lowering the Talius Habitat Screen can be difficult due to the resistance and friction created by the wind pushing against the screen fabric. However, the screen can be raised even in windy conditions.
